Summary
The Apprentice assists Journeymen in all areas of the painting trade, including preparation and application of undercoats/finish coats. Must be dependable, professional in demeanor, and able to accept orders and apply corrections. Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclimate weather conditions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist journeyman level painters in the preparation of all interior and exterior surfaces.
- Assist in brush and roller painting with water and oil-based products.
- Operates, cleans, and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roller, sprayers, pumps, etc.
- Maintains a jobsite clear of debris and excessive equipment.
- Cleans and stores materials and supplies.
- Erects scaffolding, rigging, and ladders as necessary.
- Understands verbal and written work orders and safety procedures.
Abilities
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
- Perform heavy physical labor.
- Climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Move and utilize up to a 28’ extension ladder (including all sizes of extension and step-type ladders less than 28’).
- Gain access to roofs when necessary.
- Erect and work on rolling scaffold.
- Carry full 5 gallon container of paint or equivalent weight on stairs.
- Wear & use respirators.
- Bend and reach while preparing and painting surfaces for entire work shift.

Knowledge
- 2-3 years of painting and laborer experience required.
